2026 Summer Internship — FORTIFIED Compliance Auditing Internship
The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is seeking interns to join our team this summer. As an IBHS intern, you’ll contribute to our mission of strengthening homes, businesses, and communities against severe weather—which means making a difference in the lives of real people. Purpose
Evaluate the consistency, professionalism, and ethics of the FORTIFIED provider network through a structured “secret shopper” compliance program.
Project Summary
Using an approved script, the intern places mystery customer calls to a cross-section of:
• Evaluators
• Roofing contractors
• Builders
• Designers
Calls validate whether providers:
• Follow appropriate talking points
• Clearly explain FORTIFIED levels
• Provide accurate inspection/verification expectations
• Uphold the Code of Ethics
• Offer fair, transparent consumer guidance
The intern logs responses, scores compliance, and identifies opportunities for quality improvement.
Key Deliverables
1. Call-log database (minimum ~150–200 calls).
2. Compliance scorecard for each provider.
3. Thematic analysis identifying:
o Misunderstandings
o Process gaps
o Training needs
o Regional inconsistencies
4. Provider communication templates recommending corrective messages, if needed.
5. Executive-level summary report with recommendations for:
o Network coaching
o Program quality improvements
o Updates to agreements/standards, if warranted
