JOB SUMMARY:

Emergency Power Technicians travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low voltage (60V to 600V) electrical systems. Technician shall complete automatic transfer switch servicing and troubleshooting along with low voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing. Must have practical knowledge and experience in using electrical test equipment to complete assigned job tasks. Rotate emergency on-call duty and if called respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner. Perform all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, all US state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the company operates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement procedures and tasks as provided by foreman, manager, director, or project manager.
  • Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe and workmanlike manner.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other senior management.
  • Comprehend and utilize software and applications used in field operations.
  • Be on the On-Call schedule on a rotating basis.
  • Must be available for occasional in and out of state jobs and training courses.
  • Complete and deliver reports, proposals, and required documentation.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Familiar with the Electrical industry standards and codes
  • Prior experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and supporting structures.
  • Demonstrative ability to translate and understand simple and complex electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of ATS, Switchgear, UPS, GFCI, and other critical/emergency power system equipment.
  • Must be familiar with electrical test equipment such as multimeters, IR Cams, load monitors, etc.
  • Experience utilizing power tools (saws, crimpers, drills, etc.) safely on construction and operational work sites.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; experience with various electrical system programs a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Prefer OSHA 10 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training.
  • Be able to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND / OR LICENSES:

  • Prefer an Associate's degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, or similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee).
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • 3-5 years commercial Field Technician experience within the electrical industry or similar.
  • Manufacture ATS, PLC, UPS, and other equipment certifications a plus.
