Location: Rosharon, TX

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Director of Corporate Risk and Safety to lead safety, risk, and quality initiatives across all areas of our Transmission and Distribution (T&D) operations. This senior leadership role will oversee teams and programs related to fleet management, program safety, field safety, incident and claims management, and quality assurance.

A central focus of this role is the continued integration and maturation of Human Performance (HP) principles to proactively identify and reduce risk, drive operational discipline, and foster a culture of learning and accountability. While HP initiatives are already in progress, the Director will be responsible for deepening their effectiveness and embedding them into daily operations across the organization.

The ideal candidate is a strong and visible leader who demonstrates a commitment to developing their team through both personal and professional growth. They will mentor and coach internal talent while building future leadership capacity. Additionally, this role includes regular reporting to the executive leadership team, providing strategic insights into safety performance, risk trends, and organizational improvements.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring both regulatory compliance and operational excellence in a fast-paced, field-intensive contractor environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership & Risk Management

  • Lead the development and implementation of corporate safety and risk management strategies in alignment with company goals and regulatory standards (OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, etc.).
  • Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on risk identification, incident prevention, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide strategic leadership to regional and project-based safety teams across all job sites, while actively developing team members’ leadership capabilities.
  • Regularly present risk and safety performance data, trends, and initiatives to the executive team, providing insight and recommendations for strategic decision-making.

Human Performance

  • Champion Human Performance practices across the organization.
  • Implement and coach the use of HP tools such as pre-job briefings, error precursors, and learning teams.
  • Lead post-event learning processes that emphasize accountability without blame.
  • Work cross-functionally to integrate HP into operational procedures, training programs, and investigations.
  • Apply root cause analysis methodologies to identify systemic contributors to events and integrate findings into corrective actions and learning initiatives.

Fleet Oversight

  • Oversee fleet safety, compliance, and performance across the organization.
  • Collaborate with fleet and operations leadership to implement vehicle monitoring systems (telematics), maintenance standards, and operator training.
  • Ensure DOT and state compliance for commercial drivers and vehicles.

Program & Field Safety

  • Set company-wide safety performance targets and KPIs.
  • Direct field safety operations, including safety audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and safety engagement initiatives.
  • Partner with operations to ensure job planning, crew training, and daily work activities reflect the highest safety standards.

Claims Management

  • Lead the management of injury, property damage, and vehicle-related claims.
  • Oversee investigations and coordinate with legal, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Analyze trends and conduct root cause analyses to drive targeted corrective actions and claim reduction strategies.
  • Report claim trends and financial impacts to senior and executive leadership as part of enterprise risk oversight.

Quality Assurance

  • Develop and maintain corporate quality assurance programs for field execution, materials, and workmanship.
  • Establish inspection protocols, non-conformance processes, and continuous improvement measures.
  • Collaborate with field teams to embed quality into daily operations and project delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in safety and risk management within utility construction, T&D, or heavy industrial contracting.
  • Deep understanding of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and sustaining Human Performance frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of claims handling, fleet compliance, and quality systems.
  • Certifications such as CSP, ARM, CHST, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with safety and quality platforms (e.g., ISNetworld, Avetta, Vero).

Key Competencies:

  • Strategic leadership with a hands-on, field-aware mindset
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to drive cultural change in complex, high-risk environments
  • Analytical and data-driven decision-making capability
  • Committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence
  • Commitment to developing and mentoring subordinates, fostering a high-performance team culture
  • Experience in executive-level communication, with the ability to translate technical and operational details into strategic insights

Working Conditions:

  • Up to 10% travel to project sites across Texas and neighboring states.
  • Must be comfortable with construction site conditions and able to engage effectively with field leadership.
  • The work may be subject to long hours and non-normal business hours.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $135,000-$165,000
  • Bonus: Annual discretionary performance-based bonus

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
