Job Description

About the role

We’re looking for a Project Manager who will play a crucial role in keeping our teams aligned, on schedule, and operating efficiently. You’ll own task tracking, oversee project workflows, and ensure that priorities are clear across multiple initiatives. Beyond maintaining systems, you’ll proactively identify bottlenecks, refine processes, and help lead the scaling of our project management team as the company grows.

This role is ideal for someone with 3-5 years of experience managing technical projects who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys working closely with engineers, researchers, and leadership. You’ll bridge communication gaps, keep technical and strategic goals on track, and bring structure to projects across software, ML, and hardware teams. If you love solving problems, driving clarity, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project timelines and deliverables for customer-facing initiatives, ensuring alignment with critical performance metrics (image quality, speed, memory usage).
  • Serve as the primary interface between the internal engineering teams and smartphone OEM customers to capture evolving requirements clearly and promptly.
  • Evaluate and implement the best project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc.) for our organization.
  • Set up and maintain robust project management systems, improving efficiency as the company scales.
  • Lead daily and weekly stand-up meetings to keep teams focused and accountable.
  • Act as a strong internal advocate to keep engineering resources balanced and focused, identifying and clearly communicating risks or bottlenecks early.
  • Bridge communication gaps between technical and non-technical teams.
  • Coordinate technical demos, including lab logistics, agenda, and dry-runs to ensure customer-ready presentations land on time.
  • Grow project management function to support increasing company needs through scaling.

Skills & Requirements

What makes you a good fit:

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Experience managing projects related to software development, machine learning, computer vision, or imaging systems.
  • Proven success managing complex customer-facing technical projects, ideally in software, embedded systems, or imaging, using frameworks like Agile, Scrum, or Kanban.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to define priorities beyond just task tracking.
  • Experience setting up or improving project management systems and workflows.
  • Experience introducing and supporting adoption of project management tools or workflows across technical teams.
  • Proactive problem solver who can identify risks and drive decisions forward.
  • Excellent cross-team communication skills, especially between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Engineering background that provides hands-on technical credibility when scoping work and negotiating trade-offs.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, fluent in translating complex details for both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Comfortable owning projects independently and collaborating across teams to drive progress.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in startup environments of approximately 20–50 people, with the ability to anticipate challenges associated with scaling processes.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, ClickUp, Monday, Linear, Notion, etc.).
  • Background in process automation or workflow optimization.
  • Interest in photography, imaging technology, or familiarity with core photography concepts (exposure/ISO/f-number, optics, image quality metrics).

Location & Travel

We are primarily hiring for on-site positions in our San Mateo, California office in the Bay Area.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • Stock options
  • Health/Dental/Vision Insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Caltrain GoPass

Visa Sponsorship

We’re happy to sponsor visas, though success depends on the role and individual circumstances. If we offer you the job, we’ll do everything we reasonably can to secure a visa, with the help of an immigration lawyer to guide the process.
