📍 Location: Oak Ridge, TN – UPF Project

🕒 Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (4/10 Workweek)

We are seeking a qualified HVAC Mechanical Engineer to support the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) project. This role involves designing, developing, reviewing, and evaluating HVAC systems and mechanical components in compliance with ASHRAE standards, federal safety codes, and contract requirements. You’ll contribute across disciplines and support both field and office-based activities including commissioning, walkdowns, and hazard analysis.

This is an opportunity to play a critical role in a high-profile DOE construction project with long-term significance.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

  • Perform HVAC design and engineering, including development of Ventilation & Instrumentation Diagrams (V&IDs) and formal calculations.
  • Support safety and hazard analyses; interpret and apply HVAC safety principles across mechanical systems.
  • Provide design review, testing, commissioning, and walkdown support at project sites.
  • Apply standard mechanical engineering methods, codes, and criteria (especially ASHRAE and DOE standards).
  • Use sound judgment to adapt designs for specific project needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including construction and project management.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and client representatives to resolve code compliance issues.
  • Assist in project execution by addressing mechanical design and field construction challenges.

🎓 Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 2–5 years of HVAC design experience or 6–9 years of directly relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, regulatory codes, safety standards, and HVAC system design.
  • Experience with federal, DOE, or large-scale industrial projects is strongly preferred.

🛠️ Required Skills & Tools

  • Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards and HVAC safety practices.
  • Proficiency in Trane TRACE™ 700 and VariTrane™ Duct Designer.
  • Familiarity with FATHOM and Arrow fluid analysis programs.
  • Effective in preparing engineering drawings, reports, and calculations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, compliance-driven environment.

📅 Schedule & Work Environment

  • Standard workweek: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM (10-hour shifts).
  • On-site support required for commissioning, testing, and walkdowns as needed.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and capable of working on federally regulated projects.
