Job Description

Title: Banking Operations Specialist

Location: Oakland, CA – Remote (must be within 50 miles of Oakland office)

Pay Rate: $23–$26/hr on W2

Duration: 4+ months (possibility of extension)

About the Role:

  • Square’s Banking team is seeking a Banking Operations Specialist to support our suite of banking products, including loans, credit, and other financial services. In this role, you will provide operational support, review applications and documentation, and deliver a white-glove experience to our sellers. You’ll work directly with merchants, ensuring smooth operations while helping to identify risks and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to merchant inquiries via CRM tools (email and messaging)
  • Review applications and business documents to mitigate risk
  • Complete daily cases following standard operating procedures, and analyze trends for process improvements
  • Provide support regarding loan information and Square Banking programs
  • Maintain service level agreements (SLAs) and resolve queued transactions promptly to minimize potential revenue loss
  • Identify and document product issues, escalating where needed
  • Advocate for sellers by suggesting improvements to policies, products, and support content
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with BSA/AML requirements
  • Collaborate effectively in a remote/distributed team environment using Slack, video conferencing, and internal tools
  • Gain a basic understanding of Square Banking underwriting processes

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience at a financial institution, payment service provider, or customer-facing role
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, CRM tools, and Slack preferred
  • Passion for helping small businesses succeed and improving customer experience
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
  • Interest in receiving feedback and continuously improving skills

Additional Details:

  • Work Arrangement: Remote, but candidates must live within 50 miles of Oakland, CA (1955 Broadway Ave)
  • Contract Type: W2, with medical, dental, and vision benefits offered
  • Duration: 4+ months with strong possibility of extension.
