Assistant Project Manager/ Estimator – Underground Utilities

Austin, TX - Up to $85k base + benefits and bonus

A growing self-performing underground utilities contractor in Austin is looking for a Junior Estimator to join their team. This is an opportunity for someone to learn the ins and outs of estimating public wet utility projects from experienced industry leaders, with a focus on hands-on mentorship and long-term career development. It could be ideal for

• Recent graduate with some heavy civil construction experience
• Someone in construction who has a couple of years under their belt and wants a change
• Someone with Take-Off experience who wants to learn more.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assist in preparing detailed estimates for public sector water, sewer, and storm drainage projects
• Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to identify project scope and requirements
• Perform quantity takeoffs for underground utility work
• Gather and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes
• Support bid preparation, proposal writing, and submission processes
• Collaborate with the project management team to ensure accurate pricing and scope coverage
• Help track historical cost data for future bids

What You’ll Need

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with numbers accurately
• Eagerness to learn the estimating process and grow within the company
• Strong communication skills for working with suppliers, subcontractors, and the internal team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; exposure to estimating or takeoff software is a plus
• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus
